Our Miniature Silky Fainting Goats

The miniature silky fainting goat , is an adorable small stature goat. The breed was developed from a cross between a long haired Tennessee Fainter and Nigerian Dwarf goat. They weigh in at 25-35 KG and their height is 56-66 CM at the withers.

They are very quiet, have charming personalities and they are very striking in appearance. They make wonderful pets because of their small size and temperament and children love them. They are not fence climbers and jumpers like other breeds of goats, their myotonic (fainting gene) will not allow them to climb like the other goats.

The goats carry a genetic mutation which is called myotonia congenita, their muscle fibres stiffen momentarily when they get startled. Some goats will fall over and some may just stiffen up for 5-30 seconds before they are able to walk unaffected again. This does not hurt the goat, and they carry on just like they had prior to the fainting episode.

The goats are very easy to look after and adapt very well to our cold Saskatchewan winters well. Small shelters even dog houses work well for them. In the winter plenty of straw in shelters that keep them out of the snow and rain ( they don’t like to get wet) works great. They are great grazers , and help to keep down weeds.

At Amiens Acres we have a small herd with large pastures and praise ourselves to be proactive in their well being and health .We have been raising goats for over 10 years.

We have some amazing Silky Fainting Goats with great blood lines, we have colourful goats, some polled and some with blue eyes and many are tricolour.

All our goats are registered with the Miniature Silky Fainting Goat Association, and or the Myotonic Goat Registry.

The fainting goat is a breed of domestic goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) that stiffens when startled. Although the goat may fall over and appear to faint, it remains fully conscious in a state of myotonia. Since it doesn't actually faint, the animal is properly known as the myotonic goat..
